The Waymarks New Shoes YouTube channel provides the Church with free original Christian worship songs. God calls his people to build his kingdom on earth. Each of us has a gift from the Holy Spirit. I encourage you to know your gift, to be attentive to God's instructions, and to let the Bible be your guide, not the traditions of men.
God looks for those who will be tender to the Holy Spirit. This is the importance of being a new wine skin, or in the case of the YouTube channel, of being new shoes. I'm on the downhill side of 50 years old, yet I wear Converse sneakers. That's my pair in the picture. I don't wear them to be hip or trendy or to relate to young people. Frankly a gray-haired man wearing Converse is kind of weird. I wear them to remind myself to remain young and flexible in hearing and obeying God.
In the Bible, God talks about old and new wineskins. I like to think about it like old and new shoes. Old shoes are comfortable, they fit perfectly, and they hold many good memories. I’d prefer to wear them all the time, but old shoes have troubles with new journeys. The soles can become rigid and brittle, and the fabric can become dry and inflexible to wear and tear. For a new journey, you need new shoes.
Just the same, as we mature in Christ and age, we grow in experience and gifts and discipleship and faith, which are good and needful things in the body of Christ. But we can also become rigid and inflexible. We keep looking to the past and the good ole’ days, instead of keeping our eyes on the Lord, who is always moving forward and creating something new. I want to be where God is working, even if it challenges this old shoe to stretch.
